Not the climate, but the alarmists, jeopardize our food supply

Revealing, again, that the climate agenda is about power and control.

What may have started with Meatless Mondays 20 years ago has progressed. The Dutch government has gone after its farmers. The former PM of New Zealand wanted to tax farmers for cows’ burps and farts. Now, New York City’s mayor Eric Adams wants to cut the city’s meat budget because he has vowed to reduce emissions, as the New York Times says, “food consumption rivals transportation as a source of planet-warming gases” 🙄. And Vietnam is trying to cut emissions on rice. That didn’t work out so well for Sri Lanka, once the country with the highest ESG rating decided to embrace decarbonization; food production dropped 40% and prices increased 80%. Sri Lankans are now left hungry and in poverty. So, it’s official: the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) movement is coming for our food supply.

Radical left-wing activists have convinced Wall Street banks and investment firms that control vast proportions of the world’s wealth to discriminate against law-abiding, responsible businesses simply for not aligning with their political opinions. The main public target of ESG activists has been fossil fuels, hoping divestment will force oil and gas companies to shut down all in the name of decarbonizing. What started in Texas, with legislation that I helped craft, prohibits these discriminatory financial firms from doing business with the state, has now passed in six additional states (at the time of writing), and more are pushing legislation through their legislatures now. But those woke globalist elites are not stopping at energy.

Agriculture is the next target in the climate cult’s sights. Activists argue that agriculture is bad for the planet because of its emissions. This view is shortsighted at best, because it misses the fact that we now produce more than enough food for the world with less land, less resources, and less labor than ever before. What’s more, the United States is a world leader in clean air, with air pollution down 78% in the last 50 years. American agriculture is a model of efficiency and environmental sustainability for the world. 

And the effects of climate alarmism on our food supply could be nothing short of calamitous. If farmers can’t access the financial and insurance services they need to grow our food, we’ll face three problems. First, we’ll lose access to the food and other agricultural products we depend on. Second, with agriculture making up 5.4% of the US economy–contributing almost $1.264 trillion in 2021–many hard-working Americans will be out of work. Third, we’ll become dependent on other countries for our food. 

It’s the last thing we need in a time when grocery prices are through the roof and our supply chains are only just recovering. But our food supply is a sacrifice the climate cult is willing to make.

In an interview late last year, a former BlackRock executive turned Biden advisor slipped up and actually admitted to pursuing a “new liberal order,” callously lecturing the masses to simply put up with skyrocketing prices.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the well-being of US citizens and families isn’t the ESG movement’s goal. In fact, their goal isn’t even the environment or any social good. It’s conformity at best, depopulation at worst.

The climate movement is fundamentally anti-American not because of its political values, but because it exists to force a specific agenda onto the masses. Their Malthusian crusade against energy and agriculture isn’t just bad policy — it’s actually destructive. If it’s allowed to continue, the ESG agenda will decimate our energy and our food supply — the two things we need to survive. Decarbonization and the related ESG agenda don’t support human flourishing, access to affordable and reliable energy does.
